The EB-5 Immigrant Investor Visa Program offers foreign investors U.S. green cards in exchange for investments in projects creating at least 10 jobs. Since 1990, it has driven over $37 billion in investments, created 1.3 million jobs, and supported U.S. economic growth. The EB-5 Immigrant Investor Visa Program was signed into law with the passage of the Immigration Act of 1990 as the U.S.’s first investment migration program. The program allows foreign investors to receive Lawful Permanent Resident Status (a green card) in exchange for a $800K-$1.05M investment in a U.S. enterprise which creates at least 10 jobs. The program was designed to use foreign direct investment to stimulate the American economy via employment opportunities and private enterprise development. The EB-5 program has been used for decades to promote economic growth and to build American businesses, housing, and even public infrastructure.
The target of the EB-5 investment is defined by USCIS as “any economic unit, public or private,” which is to create “economic growth, including increased export sales, improved regional productivity, job creation, and increased domestic capital investment”. For all commerce and development-related parties, the EB-5 program is a relatively inexpensive form of financing and has proven to be mutually beneficial for both foreign investors and U.S. enterprises. After its success in energizing the economy after the 2008 financial crisis, the program has evolved into a popular and viable alternative way of raising investment capital for developers and business owners.
The program has generated over $37 billion dollars in EB-5 investments and created over 1.3 million jobs since its inception. It is estimated every $1 invested through the EB-5 program generates the U.S. $4 in revenue.
