Selective Service

If you or any of your family members are male and between the ages of 18-25, you must register for the “selective service” otherwise known as the U.S. Draft. This legal requirement is easily forgotten, but can cause problems when trying to naturalize later on if an immigrant fails to register. Eligible individuals can register on the Selective Service Website.

Do not claim US Citizenship

There are many immigrants who find that claiming they are a US citizen allows for an easier time with law enforcement, banks, and other U.S. officials. HOWEVER, falsely declaring yourself a citizen is illegal and a deportable offense that can prevent you from naturalizing in the future. NEVER claim to be a naturalized citizen to any professional organization, officer, or on any written documentation without having received a passport. 

Register for EB-5 social groups

One of the greatest resources an EB-5 investor can use is their community. There are hundreds of EB-5 immigrant online communities which you can consult for questions and advice.
